Abstract

The conversion of forest land into plantations Oil Palm (Elaeis guinensis), Coffee (Coffea spp) and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus) in the BKPH Krueng Meureubo is a common occurrence, happening almost every year. This study aims to determine the factors impacting the conversion of forest land in BKPH Krueng Meureubo, and the strategies employed by UPTD-KPH Region IV Aceh to address this issue. This study used qualitative research with a descriptive type. The number of respondents in this study amounted to 45 people who were ditermined purposively. This study purposed to find out: 1) The result showed: (1) The factors that influenced the conversion of forest land in BKPH Krueng Meureubo, were: economic factors, educational factors, and demographic factors; (2) The impact of the conversion of forest land in the BKPH Krueng Meureubo on natural disasters, were: floods, landslides, erosion and drought; (3) The impacts of the conversion of forest land in the BKPH Krueng Meureubo to Natural Resources (NR), are: loss of springs, reduced water absorption rate, and reduced amount of vegetation; and (4) The strategy of the UPTD-KPH Region IV Aceh in overcoming the conversion of forest land in BKPH Krueng Meureubo, were: development and protection of forests, allocating available resources, preparing forest management plans, motivating employees, and making policies (rules and sanctions).
